Flamengo secured their fifth consecutive victory in the Brazilian Championship U-17 with a 2-0 triumph over Corinthians on Tuesday, August 11, at Luso-Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro. Goals from Jordan Michael and João Vitor Couto in the second half ensured the academy side climbed into the qualification zone for the quarter-finals.
The Rubro-Negro have built impressive momentum following a difficult start to the campaign. Following their first win against Vitória, Daniel Franklin's side has now overcome Palmeiras, Santos, Fortaleza and Corinthians consecutively. With 18 points from 11 rounds, the club currently sits in seventh place and remains firmly in contention for a top-eight finish. The team returns to action next Monday, August 17, to face Botafogo at Nilton Santos Stadium.

Match Summary
Flamengo began with attacking intent, creating three chances inside the opening ten minutes, all revolving around João Vitor Couto's involvement. In the 12th minute, Jordan Michael won possession in the opposition half, dribbled past his marker and crossed for Luiz Guilherme, whose effort from a chest control was saved by Rafael Alencar.
At the 18-minute mark, Isaac Gomes drove down the right flank and won a corner. Daniel Silva rose unmarked from the set-piece but his header whistled past the post.
Flamengo's pressure continued. After receiving possession on the left, João Vitor Couto cut inside and tested the goalkeeper, with the rebound falling to Luiz Guilherme, whose header from close range went just wide of the far corner.
In the 43rd minute, another Flamengo counter-attack threatened to break the deadlock, but Corinthians managed to organize their defence and keep the half goalless.
Following two minutes of added time, the opening period ended 0-0 at Luso-Brasileiro.
João Vitor Couto came agonizingly close in the opening moments of the second half, racing through on goal after weaving past several defenders, only to be thwarted by a last-ditch tackle.

At the 11-minute mark, Corinthians launched a dangerous counter-attack, with midfielder Ruan Andrade producing a perfectly-timed sliding tackle to divert the ball into touch.
Breakthrough arrived in the 26th minute when Bernardo Nunes regained possession in midfield and released Isaac Gomes. The number 7 arrived at pace from the right, squaring for Jordan Michael, who dispatched a first-time finish into the far corner. A spectacular strike made it 1-0 to Flamengo.
The goal marked Jordan Michael's fifth of the season and his first in this competition.
The advantage was doubled just 60 seconds later. Luiz Guilherme fed João Vitor Couto, who drove into the box and finished low into the net to make it 2-0.
Couto's finish represented his seventh goal in the Brazilian Championship and his 14th across all competitions this season, extending his lead in Flamengo's scoring charts for both tournament and calendar year.

Corinthians were reduced to ten men when number six Wendel de Sousa was sent off for kicking Ricardo Pietro during a contested challenge.
In the 42nd minute, Luiz Guilherme was fouled near the penalty area. João Vitor Couto's free-kick sailed over the crossbar.
After six minutes of added time, full-time at Luso-Brasileiro: Flamengo 2-0 Corinthians.
With the three points, Flamengo's academy side extends their winning streak to five consecutive matches, rising from 10th place to 7th and securing passage into the knockout stage.
Following the match, centre-back Daniel Silva reflected on the intensity of the encounter and previewed Monday's fixture:
"It was a tight, competitive game. We came away with the win and now we focus on this week's training to prepare for Botafogo and continue this run."
