Flamengo begins its knockout campaign in the 2026 Conmebol Libertadores on Wednesday (August 12), taking on Cruzeiro at Mineirão at 21:30 local time. The defending champions and group-stage leaders head to Minas Gerais for the first leg of their Round of 16 tie, with the return fixture set for Rio's Maracanã on August 19.
The Cariocas topped Group A with a commanding 16 points from six matches—five wins and a draw—scoring 14 goals while conceding just two. That performance earned Flamengo the best group-stage record across the entire competition.
Head-to-Head Record
Flamengo and Cruzeiro have clashed 104 times across all competitions and friendlies. The Rio outfit holds the historical edge with 40 victories against Cruzeiro's 36, plus 28 draws. In goal differential, Flamengo leads 137–123.
Wednesday's encounter marks their first Libertadores meeting since 2018, when Flamengo won 1–0 at Mineirão through a Léo Duarte goal—a positive memory for the defending champions.
In recent form, Flamengo's advantage is even more pronounced. Over the last 20 meetings, the defending champions have won 13, drawn five, and lost just two. More tellingly, Flamengo has claimed nine of the last 12 encounters, with two draws and one defeat.
