Flamengo delivered a thrilling performance last Saturday (8th) on Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, clinching the Fifth Regatta of the Rio de Janeiro State Rowing Championship and reclaiming the overall lead in the competition. Starting the regatta in second position, the Red-Black side knew the importance of a strong result in their push for the title. Throughout the day's programme, equilibrium among Rio's premier rowing clubs remained fierce, with the decisive edge coming down to the final race of the afternoon. That is where Flamengo showed their mettle. Delivering a commanding performance in the crucial race, the club mounted a stunning comeback, secured victory in the Fifth Regatta and accumulated vital points to take the overall championship lead by a single point ahead of second place. Frank Oliveira, supervisor of rowing operations, underscored the tight nature of the championship and praised the Red-Black effort across another intensely competitive day on the water. "This is a championship that remains extremely competitive," Oliveira said. "Each regatta is a major battle among Rio's top clubs, and by God's grace we got the win today—with tremendous fight. It was a very disputed regatta, as I have been saying. We turned the championship around, put ourselves a point to the front, and the remaining regattas will be just like this until the end. This is Flamengo!" With the state title still wide open, Flamengo returns to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas on October 3rd for the Sixth Regatta of the Rio de Janeiro State Rowing Championship.
