Sesc RJ hosts Batavo Mackenzie in bid to extend unbeaten start

League leaders Sesc RJ Flamengo host Batavo Mackenzie this Saturday (Oct 31) at 6:30pm at Tijuca Tennis Club in the third round of Brazil's top-flight women's volleyball competition, with live coverage on SporTV 2 and tickets available through Guichê Web. Bernardinho's squad holds six points from two matches and remains the only team yet to drop a set.

The Rio outfit opened their campaign with a straight-sets victory over Paulistano Barueri on home court, then replicated the scoreline away at Brasília Vôlei with an even more impressive display. Batavo Mackenzie, by contrast, has suffered back-to-back defeats to Sesi Vôlei Bauru and Osasco São Cristóvão Saúde. Regardless, Rubro-Negro's focus is on steadily building momentum as preparations intensify for the marathon that is the Superliga season.

"We've had a very productive week and we're focused on putting in another strong performance," said middle blocker Juju. "We've studied Batavo Mackenzie's strengths—they've brought in lots of new faces this year—and we know it will be a tough match. That's why we need to stay 100% committed to Bernardo's instructions and our coaching staff's guidance, and put real pressure on our serve to make life difficult for them."

Opposite Tainara has emerged as one of Sesc RJ Flamengo's offensive standouts with 29 points, currently fifth in the Superliga's leading scorers list. Wing spiker Simone Lee has added 25 points. Libero and captain Laís ranks second among players for pass efficiency at 79.2%.

Sesc RJ Flamengo's season has also built positive momentum after claiming the Copa SuperVôlei in September and the Rio State Championship in early October.

The most decorated team in Superliga history with 12 titles, Sesc RJ Flamengo topped the national podium in seasons 1997/98 and 1999/2000 (both held in Curitiba), 2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, and 2016/17 (based in Rio de Janeiro).
